Weekend wildlife campaign engages over 500 participants at Cheras LeisureMall

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 August 2024 – In honour of World Ranger Day and World Tiger Day, PPB Properties organised Claws and Conservation weekend from 9 – 11 August at Cheras LeisureMall, which was dedicated to the conservation of Malayan tigers and other endangered animals native to Malaysia.

Held in partnership with PERHILITAN and Pelindung Alam Malaysia, the event aimed to raise awareness and educate the public about the importance of wildlife conservation. A few engaging activities were organised throughout the weekend to help shoppers, especially the younger generation, learn about wildlife rescue and how they can do their part to help protect endangered species.

Visitors discovered more about Malayan tigers and other endangered Malaysian wildlife through interacting with actual preserved Malayan Tiger and animal exhibits. Shoppers had a unique opportunity to get upclose and personal with some of the species that call Malaysia home and take photographs that will last a lifetime.

Several wildlife conservation experts from PERHILITAN and Pelindung Alam Malaysia were invited to share their knowledge and insights about the diverse species found in Malaysia’s rainforests such as tapirs, clouded leopards, red dholes, marbled cats and many more.

These talks highlighted the importance of conservation efforts, what the experts are doing daily to save the animals, and the challenges faced by wildlife in their natural habitats.

The public could contribute to wildlife conservation efforts by supporting Pelindung’s charity sales. All proceeds from the weekend were donated to initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving Malaysia’s precious wildlife.

Besides that, the younger generation showcased their artistic skills through an art competition for participants aged 4 – 17 years old. Beyond encouraging creativity, the competition aimed to instil in young minds the importance of wildlife conservation.

Claws and Conservation was ideated as a call to action, highlighting the urgency of protecting our dwindling wild Malayan Tigers population. Every activity was designed to help shoppers gain a deeper understanding of the plight of our endangered wildlife and the challenges conservationists face in protecting them.

The three-day event saw over 500 participants, as well as over 250 pledges to do their part to protect our native endangered species.
