06 Nov PPB Group Berhad and PPB Properties Launch The REplace Project: A Comprehensive Sustainability Initiative
PETALING JAYA, 6 NOVEMBER 2023 – PPB Group Berhad and PPB Properties kicked off The REplace Project, a pioneering sustainability initiative at Megah Rise Mall that comprises of four sustainability efforts, supported by a series of educational talks and workshops set over two weekends.
The Project is aimed at fostering sustainable living and environmental consciousness among the local communities across the Group’s retail projects.
Under the umbrella of The REplace Project, four distinct, long-term sustainability efforts have been seamlessly integrated including a book sharing corner, a smart urban farm, a dedicated recycling area and electric vehicle (EV) charging bays. All four elements are aimed at enabling the community to play an active role in sustainable lifestyle practices and promote proper recycling methods.
The REcycle element comprises of a dedicated recycling area located at Level B2 that provide residents with a one-stop location to recycle paper, tin, plastic, e-waste and fabric waste responsibly. Meanwhile, REgrow refers to a smart, vertical urban farm on Level 1 that grows Asian vegetables to be donated every two weeks to three charity homes. REcharge consists of three EV charging bays, while REpurpose encourages repurposing pre-loved books through a book sharing corner.
The first weekend of The REplace Project featured a total of eight engaging talks and workshops, spanning over two days, from 4 to 5 November 2023.
The sessions were centred around the theme “Recycling Done Right”, offering the community an opportunity to engage with experts on sustainability, such as Sunway XFarms, Impactlution, Biji-Biji Initiative, Kloth Cares Malaysia and Zero Waste Malaysia. The hands-on learning experiences also allowed participants of all ages to learn how to incorporate eco-friendly practices into their daily lives.
The activities covered a wide range of topics, including responsible waste management, renewable energy, sustainable living practices, and the importance of recycling.
Both weekends’ activities saw an encouraging response from the residents of Taman Megah, garnering over 300 participants.
“We are delighted to see such a positive response from the community of Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya. We believe that collective efforts toward sustainability are crucial for a brighter, greener future,” said Audrey Lee, Group Head of Sustainability of PPB Group Berhad. “These efforts also play a small role in developing the next generation of environmentally conscious citizens.”
“The REplace Project represents our commitment to making a tangible impact on environmental conservation and the well-being of our community,” said Low Eng Hooi, Chief Executive Officer of PPB Properties.
The Project will return for a second weekend of activities from 10 to 13 November 2023, with another set of 12 talks and workshops organized across three days.
The continuous support and commitment from the community play an integral part to the success of the initiative. PPB Group Berhad hopes to continue its long-term efforts towards promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness.
The REplace Project is slated to roll out across all retail malls under PPB Properties with a commitment for further educational initiatives.
