GEORGE TOWN, 28 JULY 2024 – The Penang Heritage Photography Fiesta 3.0 has concluded on Sunday with resounding success in celebrating Penang’s traditional flavours with the presentation of 16 prizes across three categories in its photography and videography competition.
The third instalment of the initiative is jointly organised by PPB Group Berhad, its property division PPB Properties and SONY Malaysia, while GSC served as the venue sponsor of the prize presentation ceremony.
This year’s Fiesta saw enthusiastic participation from photography enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds in capturing the traditional culinary heritage that defines Penang. Over the past few months, the participants immersed themselves in the rich local culinary scene, from bustling street markets to traditional cuisines of all races and religions.
PHPF3.0 kicked off in May 2024 with a series of engaging photography workshops and guided photo walks, led by renowned SONY professionals. These sessions also allowed participants to gain insights, tips, and tricks in visual storytelling in line with this year’s competition theme.
The awards presentation ceremony, which was held at GSC Gurney Plaza, concluded the three-month-long campaign. The event started with a live screening of the finalists in the youth videography category in a cinema setting and a showcase of the finalist photographs. Two judges also shared their thoughts on this year’s competition during the event, including David ST Loh, a photojournalist and award-winning author.
“The competition challenged participants to document the dynamic visuals between people and our cuisine through documentary-style photographs.,” said Loh. “This type of photography demands a keen eye and connection to the subject matter. Despite the challenging theme this year, we are pleased to receive over 150 high-quality printed submissions.”
