Alzheimer’s Disease Community Centre Unveiling And World Alzheimer Month Activities Held at Megah Rise Mall

 

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 SEPTEMBER 2025 – The grand opening of the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM) Community Centre at Megah Rise Mall held on 4 September marked a milestone community initiative dedicated to supporting families impacted by Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.

Organised by Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM) and PPB Properties, the new community centre will serve as a safe and welcoming space for persons with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, caregivers, and the public. Located at the Ground floor, the centre aims to allow the community to come together to learn, connect, and find support.

The grand opening of the ADFM Community Centre at Megah Rise was officiated with a ribbon cutting ceremony by (left to right) Dato Jeffrey Ng President of Board of Trustees ADFM, Puan Gan Pei Nei CEO of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor, Puan Sri Wendy Ong Patron of ADFM, Low Eng Hooi CEO of PPB Properties, DY Surharya Regional Director of Alzheimer’s Disease International Asia Pacific Office, Tan Sri Hasmah Abdullah Chairperson of the Executive Committee of ADFM and members of ADFM.


The community centre aims to be a safe space for persons with dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease and their caregivers, offering interactive brain stimulating activities, social engagement and support. This centre is the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia, and one of the only centres based in a shopping mall in the world.

 

“The opening of our Community Centre at Megah Rise Mall marks an important step forward in our mission to support Malaysians impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia,” said Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM). “This partnership allows us to be closer to the community, providing guidance, understanding, and engaging activities that help families navigate their journey with dementia.”

To commemorate the opening, four-days of activities was held from 4 – 7 September 2025, 10am-6pm at Megah Rise Mall centred around this year’s theme #AskAboutDementia #AskAboutAlzheimers.

One of the major highlights of the event was the World Alzheimer’s Month 2025 Memory Walk on 6 September, a symbolic walk accompanied by music. The walk saw over 200 participants from the community standing in solidarity and support for persons with dementia.

World Alzheimer’s Month is celebrated every September, centred around this year’s theme of #AskAboutDementia, #AskAboutAlzheimers.


Step by step, the World Alzheimer’s Month Memory Walk 2025 was a symbolic walk for love, hope, and remembrance for persons with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease on their journey.

 

A wide range of workshops & talks offer informative, interactive sessions to educate the public on dementia, caregiving, and healthy ageing throughout the four days. The event will also host complimentary basic screenings by medical professionals for dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, various community engagement activities including dance and musical performances from persons with dementia.
